ALISON WHATELEY - CONTEMPORARY TEXTILE & MIXED MEDIA
Alison is a contemporary textile and mixed media artist who works from her studio just outside Exeter in Devon.
Despite having a love of fabric and stitch from an early age, she only discovered textiles as an art form when she was in her mid forties, and it has opened up a whole new creative world to her.
Having lived in Devon all her life Alison has always had a great appreciation of the natural world, and this now inspires her art. Her figurative work is characterised by her use of sheer fabrics which add subtle tones and atmosphere to her pieces. Although mainly using textiles, she does also incorporate mixed media elements into her work to add extra texture and interest.
Her work continues to evolve, as she is constantly inspired to experiment with new techniques and materials. Recent additions to her portfolio include abstract works where her use of mixed media, colour and texture is more pronounced.
Alison is a member of the Devon Artist Network and the Society for Embroidered Work.
