NIKKI MONAGHAN - PAINTER
I am a professional artist working from my home studio in Falkirk, Central Scotland.
I studied at the Scottish College of Textiles where I gained a BA (Hons) in Printed Textile Design. I have also dabbled in silversmithing and I worked for many years as an interior stylist throughout the UK. I’ve also enjoyed working on many community based art projects over the years.
I now work full time as an artist from my studio. My work can be found in galleries throughout the Uk and private collections worldwide. I regularly undertake commissions as well as exhibiting my work in galleries and my studio is open to visitors (please book through ‘Visit the Studio’).
Focusing mainly on Scottish cities and villages my paintings are full of colour where joyful scenes and memories are relived, and connections can be made.
The starting point for my paintings is often inspired by a memory of a particular place. The memories of how I felt in that moment are reflected through my colour palette. I love history and the connection we have with our past. Villages stepped in history with a link to days gone by are brought to life through colour, and cityscapes of Edinburgh and Stirling are awash with architecture centuries old with a pattern of higgledy -piggledy rooftops and windows that dance in the artwork.
I want the viewer to feel like they have been to the place I paint, as if it’s familiar to them. Or it actually does hold memories for them and when they pass the painting or print in their home they will be taken back to that day full of cherished memories, of a particular time in their life.
