Cate’s still life paintings reflect her desire to find simplicity in the objects around her, be it from the natural world or things of a bygone age. Her tendency is to capture fine detail, whilst keeping edges naturally soft, to give the viewer a sense of seeing something with the naked eye. Using a mixture of traditional oil painting methods alongside more modern techniques, Cate’s still life paintings portray a sense of simplicity and stillness, whilst capturing depth and detail.
